Experience

There are plenty of qualified CPAs who can handle your financial statements, prepare your tax returns, and tell you what you can’t do. Brian strives to be different by exploring what our clients can do. Brian is a people person, very emotional (his wife might say too emotional), doesn’t have a conservative bone is his body, has to use a calculator for the simplest mathematical calculations, and has always found a way to justify buying something he really wanted. These personality traits, combined with tremendous aptitude, have shaped Brian into a professional with an unexpected side – empathy.

Right out of college, Brian was lucky enough to work for Arthur Anderson in the Cincinnati office as part of their tax department. The formal training he acquired through the first decade of his career was grueling, but the experience Brian gained was priceless and rewarding. In 1990, his journey led him to VonLehman to head their tax department. After leading the group for a few years, Brian quickly realized his real talent was working with people and not tax research and returns. Brian rose through the ranks at VL and succeeded Andy VonLehman in 2009 as Managing Partner. In 2022, Brian turned over the reins of the firm to Adam Davey and remains with VonLehman as a Shareholder.

Not many CPAs are willing to be a client advocate by using their talent, creativity, and care in dealing with the tax and business issues that often arise. This is where Brian is at his best. His expertise is broad in just about any situation that a closely held business would have, from formation to sale. Brian applies his vast tax knowledge to ensure that VL clients are paying the lowest taxes they are legally obligated to pay, while guaranteeing the best possible position for client success.

Brian’s involvement outside of work generally follows his enthusiasm for exercise. Aligning with what some might call a golf addiction, Brian is the former President of the Cincinnati Athletic Club and former President of Kenwood Country Club. He also served as the Chairman of CPAmerica in 2018, speaking to his passion for the profession.

Since 2009, Brian has helped build an incredible team at VonLehman and is proud to have the opportunity to lead this great company into the future.
